Larew Wheaton

Larew “Larry” Warren Wheaton, of Poulsbo, died peacefully on Sept. 18. He was 82.

He was born May 9, 1926 in New Jersey to Lillian and Edmund Wheaton.

He attended New Jersey College of Engineering and received his masters in engineering from Yale University.

He was a retired major in the U.S. Army and retired from his job as a financial analyst with Chevron Oil.

Larry left New Jersey in 1969 for Tehran, Iran, transferring to Sausalito, Calif., in 1974.

He retired to Bainbridge Island in 1996 and relocated to Poulsbo in 2004. He spent his retirement years following the stock market, renewing old acquaintances, playing computer games and enjoying membership and wonderful meals with friends in the Bainbridge Gourmet Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie.

He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Suzanne (Alan) Sanborn of Aurora, Colo., and Cynthia (Daniel) Whiteman of DeLeon Springs, Fla.; his grandchildren Christina Sanborn (Paul) Gomez and Douglas Sanborn, PFC, U.S. Army; his great-granddaughter, Felice Maricela Gomez; and his stepmother, Florence.

A private family burial service will be held in Northfield, Minn., as per Larry’s wishes.
