Lois Ann Glosten (née Peterson)
December 1, 1924 – June 15, 2010
Lois Ann Glosten (née Peterson), known to her many friends as “Pete,” died in her home June 15, 2010. Pete was born December 1, 1924, in Gladstone, Michigan.
She graduated from the University of Minnesota in the School of General Engineering (the first woman to do so) in 1945. She moved to Washington DC where she worked as a physicist for the US Bureau of Standards. There she met Lawrence Robert Glosten, and they married September 21, 1946.
After spending time in Puerto Rico, Eugene and Palo Alto, Pete and Larry settled on Bainbridge Island in 1953. Pete raised three children and supported Larry while he established the naval architecture and marine engineering firm, “The Glosten Associates.” She greatly enjoyed their world travels for pleasure and related to Larry’s business. Over the years she was active with UNICEF, Head Start, Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, the Bainbridge Committee/Katy Warner Christmas Fund, and the Bainbridge Island Library.
Pete will be remembered for her love of cooking, gardening, and especially, dancing. For over ten years she shared this love with others teaching a weekly line dancing class at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center, interjecting her ballet and tap dancing expertise. Her last class was just a few weeks before she died! Pete is survived by her brother Warren Peterson, her three children: Lawrence Robert Glosten Jr., Barbara Radovich, and Beth Glosten, and three grandchildren.
An open house in Pete’s honor will be held at Pete and Larry’s home on Saturday July 24, 2010, from 2 – 4 pm. Contact Beth Glosten after July 8th for additional information at bglosten@aol.com or (425) 881-6112. Remembrances can be sent to the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation (1301 Sylvan Way, Bremerton, WA 98310; www.krl.org) or Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation (PO Box 5371, Seattle, WA 98145; www.seattlechildrens.org).
