Her family celebrates Luann Mischler, mother, grandmother, teacher, artist, friend. Luann was an educator who went back to school when her sons were in college to earn a master’s degree in Special Education. She coped with the intensity of teaching at both Bainbridge High and North Kitsap High School with humor and companionship with her fellow teachers. Her students and colleagues would remember her as Luann Olsen. Luann loved creating art. Sometimes fabric, sometimes beads, sometimes pages torn from magazines. She saw beauty in their shadow, color, and form, combining pieces together in tiny collages. She took pride in her art and looked forward to showing it to family and friends. Luann loved crisp collared shirts; a men’s wear look. She paired them with well-fitting jeans and smart leather sandals. She was sophisticated, urbane, and curated with her cat-eye glasses and silver jewelry.
Luann loved dancing to Eric Clapton in the kitchen, a cool glass of Alberino on the counter. She loved making and eating meals with the people she loved. She was happiest surrounded by her community.
Luann loved long hours on the couch or in bed, reading a mystery novel. Luann loved Paris and New York.
Luann was a romantic at heart and spent the last years of her life in Ballard with The Wonderful Harlan Falkin, whom she called “her person” and who was with her every day until the very last. Most of all, Luann loved her family. With family, she always stayed near – calling, texting, making plans to see us, asking about our kids. She was beloved “Lulu” to her grandkids, Avery, Dean, Archie, and Aurie, who will miss her curiosity about their lives and her quick laughter. Her family, including sons Kyle Twitchell (Betsy) and Grant Twitchell (Jenee), and her four grandchildren, along with her friends in Seattle and Kitsap County, will gather this coming summer to remember Luann with a celebration of her life.
