Margaret (Margie) Teresa McDevitt passed away peacefully on December 8th.
She was the 5th of 6 children, born April 1st, 1930 in Seattle to Irish immigrant parents, Hannah & John McDevitt. Their Capital Hill home was filled with Irish song and dance.
Margie graduated from Holy Names Academy. She loved the theater and was part of the Cirque Theater group appearing in numerous productions. Margie began her teaching career at Home of Good Shepard and went back to school in her 40’s, attending the University of Washington, where she received a teaching degree. Margie taught Special Education at Garfield, Lincoln and Bainbridge High Schools. She was a strong and passionate advocate for her students.
Margie had a busy social life, she danced whenever the opportunity arose and enjoyed sharing her beach house with family and friends. She was active in her church – her faith was an integral part of her life, volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce and Bargain Boutique. She taped books for the impaired and tutored whenever asked.
Margie will be greatly missed, but we are comforted knowing that she joins her mother, father, sisters and brothers in heaven.
She is survived by her sister Betty Gardner, her children; Mark Leader, (Debra), Sheila Frawley and Erin Leader (Michael Effler), grandchildren; Shawna Leader (Thomas Stimac), Kate Frawley, Kyle Leader and Michael’s son Mian Effler.
A heartfelt thanks to the Madrona House care providers and Kaiser Permanente Hospice Team for their support and guidance throughout this journey.
