Maria Soriano Tabafunda, 93

Maria Soriano Tabafunda died Nov. 28 at her home on Bainbridge Island. She was 93.

She was born on May 12, 1916, in the Philippines.

Maria arrived on Bainbridge with her husband, the first Filipino married couple to become residents here.

Her passions were farming animals, growing vegetables and berries; and taking care of her family.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband Gualverto Tabafunda in 1991.

Maria is survived by her children Linda and Bobby Tabafunda; grandchildren Diony Garcia, Ronnie Garcia, Patrick Garcia, Melanie Elenez and Bob Tabafunda; great-grandchildren Janeen, Jade and Justina Garcia, Devin Maama, Dylan and Dustin Garcia, Savannah Bogan, Isabelle and Jayden Elenez and Evan Garcia.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 3, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 4, also at the church. Interment will follow at Seabold Cemetery on Bainbridge Island. Following graveside services, a reception will be held at The Suquamish Community House, 7235 NE Parkway, Suquamish.
