Longtime Bainbridge Island resident, Myra V. Wendt, age 88, died Jan. 10 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
She was born Oct. 6, 1913 in Boise, Idaho to Luther and Lucile (Conkle) Vance. Following graduation from Sand Point High School in Idaho, Myra married Arthur D. Wendt in 1934.
They moved to Bainbridge Island in 1942 and lived in the Rolling Bay neighborhood. She was a homemaker who welcomed family and friends to enjoy her company and the flowers in her gardens.
Her husband worked for Standard Oil, and this allowed the couple to make numerous trips to Alaska. Her home was the usual site for extended family gatherings, and hosted regular Sunday morning sourdough hotcake breakfasts.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.
She is survived by three daughters, Janice Cooper of Elkton, Ore., Deanna Bjornson of Bainbridge Island, and Mary Hoffmann of Bainbridge Island; two sisters, Adell Lowry of Bainbridge Island and Evelyn McMahon of Spokane; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
