Longtime island resident Noel Rockwell, age 87, died July 12 in Port Townsend.
He was born Dec. 30, 1914 in Seattle to Robert Rockwell and Bertha Sedore.
He moved to Bainbridge Island at age 13 and resided there until 2000, when he relocated to Quilcene.
From 1938-1947, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as part of the Engineering Corp. He also spent three years at the University of Washington.
On Aug. 5, 2000 he married Mary Anne M. (Thiemann) Rockwell in Puyallup.
He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hiking, canoeing and travel.
He was a member of the Methodist church, the USMC Engineers, the Mountaineers, and the Lions Club of Quilcene.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of Quilcene; son Winston Rockwell of Kirkland and numerous step-children and step-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held July 20 at Seabold Methodist Church. Remembrances may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax, Suite #100, Arlington, VA 22203-1606.
