Norma Weddell Hoover, 82

Norma Weddell Hoover died Dec. 20 at Harborview Medical Center, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

She was born July 11, 1927 in Indianapolis.

She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Indiana and a master’s degree in education at the University of Maryland.

In 1948, she married Jack Strickland. They moved to Bainbridge Island in 1976 where she worked for the U.S. Dept. of Labor.

She met her second husband, Clyde Hoover, on a Sierra Club hike, marrying him in 1986.

After a 1986 trip to India, she became a devotee of the guru Paramahansa Yogananda, joined the Self Realization Fellowship, and developed a meditation practice that sustained her throughout the rest of her life.

Norma was preceded in death by her first husband Jack, in 1983, and her second husband, Clyde, in 2006. She is survived by sons Seth, Joel and Daniel and five grandchildren.

A meditation and memorial service will be held later.
