      Richard K. McKibben, passed away peacefully on July 28th, 2011.

      He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, son Richard Jr., daughter Dea, son-in-law Peter, sister Elizabeth, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

      Richard was born in London, Ontario, Canada, in 1921. He grew up in Los Angeles, and summered on Balboa Island, CA. He lived with his family for 40 years in LaCanada, CA. He was drawn to the Pacific Northwest during his early years of flight training where he and his wife, Patricia retired. They’ve happily lived in Kingston, WA for the last fifteen years.

      Richard was stationed aboard the USS Princeton, was assistant navigator on the USS Indianapolis and flew Corsairs during WW2. After graduation from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1944, he became an inventor, designer and engineer holding 19 patents.

      Richard was an avid athlete. His passions included rowing, sailing and flying. An eternal optimist, he found light and humor throughout his long rich life with Patricia, his wife of 60 years. He was a scholar and storyteller, often heard breaking into song, captivating young and old alike with tales of his countless adventures. His insatiable curiosity for information and knowledge was satisfied by problem solving and designing. He cherished the company of his family and friends and all have been enriched by knowing him. He was an unforgettable gentleman from the greatest generation.

      In lieu of services, the family has chosen a private celebration of his life. Those wishing to donate to Richard’s memory are encouraged to donate to the Hospice of Kitsap County or the charity of their choice.
