Island resident Rod Stephen Strasburger, age 80, died March 6.
He was born Jan. 18, 1922 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Amanda Appel and Rodman Strasburger.
He attended Montlake Grade School and Garfield High School in Seattle. He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in accounting.
He served in the U.S. Army until April 1946 and the U.S. Air Force until Dec. 1958.
He liked playing handball, a sport he picked up in grade school and continued into his 60s.
He also enjoyed spending time with family, and catching up with old classmates and friends, including the members of the morning coffee club at Town & Country.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Strasburger; daughter Lynn Strasburger and cousin Helen (Eugene) Schmieden.
A memorial service will be held later in the summer.
