Royce Grant Nogle, age 87, of Bainbridge Island, died March 8, 2002 at Messenger House Care Center on Bainbridge Island.
He was born Nov. 26, 1914 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Frederick and Gladys (Wood) Nogle.
He grew up in Spokane and graduated from Washington State University in 1937.
On June 16, 1942, just after entering the service, he married Eleanor Adkins in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
He served for three years in the Army and was discharged following the war with the rank of Major.
He then began a career with General Mills in Tacoma and stayed there until the mill closed in 1965. He spent the last 13 years of his work life as a Western Washington Administrator with the Washington State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1980.
He was an active retiree and rabid Cougars fan. He played tennis frequently, ran three miles several times a week and ran in the Sound to Narrows race several times.
He maintained a forty-year membership with St. Luke’s Memorial Church in Tacoma.
He is survived by one son, David Nogle of Bellevue; two daughters, Nancy Sias of Bainbridge and Peggy Beaudoin of Gig Harbor; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. March 17 at St. Luke’s Memorial Church, 3615 North Gove Street, Tacoma.
