Stanford (Stan) William Olsen, 72

Standford William Olsen died Dec. 8. He was 72.

Stanford was born June 12, 1937 at Olympic Hospital in Port Gamble to Karl Stanford and Marie Thelma Olsen. In 1962, he married June Marie Olsen who was his wife and partner for 35 years until her passing in February 1997.

He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1956 and upon graduation left to work in Alaska for Aleutian Cold Storage from 1956 till 1982.

When not fishing he worked in construction for companies such as Century Construction Co. and Prime. Stanford was a member of Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 252 from March 1964 until his passing.

Stan loved the outdoors; fishing, camping, and boating. He loved playing cards, country music and cooking.

Stanford is survived by his son Dennis Olsen of Bainbridge Island; two brothers, Lawrence Olsen of Port Orchard and David Olsen of Port Townsend; sister, Mary Pickens of Suquamish; and six nieces and nephews.

At Stanford’s request no funeral service will be held; instead he asked that donations be made to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, Seattle, to help children and families through difficult times.
