Stephen Arthur Kikuchi

Stephen Arthur Kikuchi, age 57, died Jan. 20 at his home in Indianola.

The son of Arthur M. Kikuchi and Mary Migaki Kikuchi, he was born on July 19, 1946 in Yakima.

He graduated from Toppenish High School in 1964. In 1968 he received a bachelor of arts degree from Washington State University, where he served as ASB president during his senior year. In 1969 he received a master’s in English literature from Columbia University in New York.

He was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War and performed alternative service in Seattle from 1970 to 1972.

He married Barbie Brooking in Camas, Wash., on Sept. 21, 1974.

At the time of his death, he was the assistant director of human resources for King County. He had previously worked for the City of Seattle and the U.S. Office for Civil Rights.

He enjoyed soccer, biking, hiking, and music. He volunteered as advisor to the American Friends Service Committee.

He is survived by his wife Barbie Brooking, sons Paul and Joel, brothers Richard and Danny, and sister-in-law Mary O’Brien.

Services will be in Seattle and Indianola. The Seattle service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 at University Friends Center, 4001 9th Ave. NE. The Indianola service will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 1 at Camp Indianola.
