Sydney H. Daughters
July 16, 1916 – November 22, 2011
Sydney was born July 16, 1916 in Seattle to Hilda and John McManus and passed away peacefully November 22, 2011 at her home for the past five years, the Marymoor Assisted Living Facility in Redmond.
She grew up in West Seattle, graduating from West Seattle High School in 1934. Sydney married Lewis Daughters the following year and lived in a very scenic beach home close to the Alki Point lighthouse for several years. They later moved to Bainbridge and operated the Eagledale Market for many years and then “Macs Grocery” in West Seattle until retirement. Throughout their lives both Syd and Lew loved to drive, and they went through a number of GM cars over the years while traveling around the Northwest. One memorable trip included towing a homemade trailer to the 1939 New York World’s Fair long before the interstate highway system was built.
Sydney’s primary focus in life concerned her immediate family including her two children, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a niece and her three children. This included attending numerous (hundreds) of sporting events and dance recitals as they all grew up. More recently Sydney continued to follow her granddaughter’s high school swim team events. She was even asked to time a swim meet when well into her 80’s.
Sydney is survived by a son Jack and his wife Mary of Bellingham, a daughter, Tricia and her husband Bill Ebert of Redmond, a niece, Judy Kiriluk of Belfair and her two sons Bob and Jay, three grandchildren, B.J. Ebert, Kris Daughters and Susan Auld and two great grandchildren, Kellen and Evan Auld.
A family burial service was held at Lakeview Cemetery on December 2. Those who wish to make a contribution on Sydney’s behalf may contribute to Children’s Hospital or Evergreen Hospice.
