Bainbridge Island resident Thomas Ashley Stebbins, age 82, died Nov. 24 on Bainbridge Island.
He was born in Deerfield, Mass. Feb. 9, 1919 to Leo and Natalie (Ashley) Stebbins.
He attended Amherst College and joined the Marines, where he attended Officer’s Candidate School before joining the 4th Radar Battalion in the South Pacific.
He married Elizabeth Bankwitz in Turners Falls, Mass.
He later attended Johns Hopkins University and upon graduation became a medical illustrator for the university.
In subsequent years, he was a faculty member at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and later an assistant professor of medical illustration at the University of Washington. He retired in 1991.
He loved being outdoors and enjoyed rowing on Lake Washington, where he could exercise his body and his photography skills.
He is survived by his son Jonathan Stebbins of Menlo Park, CA; his daughter Susan Galloway of Bainbridge Island; his brother Charles Stebbins of Arkansas; and two grandchildren, Tom and Kitty, both of Bainbridge Island.
Services will be held at Wyatt House on Bainbridge Island at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.
