We weren’t trying to save the best for last.
It just worked out that way.
Most Bainbridge voters will fill out their ballots over the next few days, and we’re hoping they will make a wise decision and join with us in voting to return Kirk Robinson to another term on the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District.
Robinson has served Bainbridge citizens admirably for the past 14 years, and his contributions to arguably the best group of elected officials on the island have played a part in the long string of successes enjoyed by the park district in recent years.
The list of accomplishments is long: the public purchase of the land for Sakai Park, the completion of the all-inclusive Owen’s Playground, the ballfield renovations at Rotary Park, and then there’s Hilltop, Gazzam Lake, the takeover of Fay Bainbridge and Fort Ward state parks … the list goes on. Park officials have also OK’d citizen-led additions such as the pump track and disc golf course at Battle Point, and still more improvement projects to park facilities are in the offing.
Robinson is committed to the responsible stewardship of our island’s parks and open spaces, as well as the prudent use of taxpayer dollars. And we credit Robinson and his fellow board members as the reasons behind the stellar scores (approval rates above 90 percent) that Bainbridge residents gave parks and recreational programs in a recent survey.
Return Robinson to the board; let’s keep a great thing going.
