It’s been 20 years since Bainbridge High School has sent a singles tennis player to state.
But now it looks like it could happen four years in a row.
Jett Peters is just a freshman, but he qualified for state next spring by going undefeated in the district championships recently.
The Spartans also are sending to state the doubles team of sophomore Aidan McLennan and junior Brogan Rice, who also finished undefeated at districts.
In Olympic League play, BHS was second with a 9-3 record. As a 3A school, it was unable to compete in the 2A conference tournament. But the Spartans were allowed one singles player and one doubles team to have a wild card entry into the South Sound Conference in a single-elimination contest for a spot at districts in Tacoma. They both won to advance.
At districts the Spartans won out in straight sets over 10 matches, qualifying for state in May.
