Class A must stand for Class Act.
Playing Jackson High School at the Seattle Mariners Class A Funko Field stadium in Everett, Bainbridge High School used timely power hitting to beat the home team 6-2 Saturday.
Tied 2-2 in the sixth, Bainbridge took the lead for good with two runs.
JR Ritchie led off with a liner to left for a single. Junior Luke Lavigne had an infield single. And then Joey Hildebrandt had a 2 RBI double off the centerfield wall.
BHS put the game away in the top of the seventh with two more runs.
Sophomore Kent Wisner was hit by a pitch and stole second. After a walk and a fielder’s choice, sophomore Owen Browning smacked a 2 RBI double to the warning track in right center.
In the first, Ritchie hit a grounder down the rightfield line for a triple but was left stranded.
Jackson took the early lead when pitcher Ritchie hit a batter, had an error on a pickoff move to first, and then after a passed ball the runner scored on a ground out to make it 1-0.
Bainbridge took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second when Lavigne singled to left center and after a groundout scored on an RBI single by Hildebrandt. Breckin Hadley followed with a double to rightfield. Junior Coco Black drove the ball deep to centerfield for a sacrifice fly, scoring Hildebrandt.
Jackson had two singles in the bottom of the second, but Ritchie, who is destined for UCLA, left them stranded with two strikeouts.
Ritchie struck out the side in the third, but the Wolves almost scored anyway as standout shortstop Dominic Helman, who is destined for the University of Oregon, got on base on an error and advanced to second on another error before being stranded.
Cooper Russell came in to pitch for BHS with one out in the fourth inning.
At the plate, the Spartans were held scoreless for a few innings due to numerous pop ups and fly outs.
Jackson finally tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a single, wild pitch, passed ball and error.
Ritchie was the winning pitcher going 3 1/3 innings, striking out six with no walks and three hits. Russell pitched the last 3 2/3, struck out two and gave up two hits, also with no walks. Jackson pitchers combined for six strikeouts and three walks.
At the plate, Hildebrant led the way with two hits and three RBI. Browning had 2 RBI. Both had doubles. Ritchie had two hits, including the triple. LaVigne had two singles. Hadley had the other, the double.
