The Bainbridge Spartans baseball team showcased its offensive talent at home March 19, beating Olympic 11-2.
The teams played the day before at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds with the Spartans also winning that game handily 14-0.
“We did some things well, but we’ve got to do those things consistently,” Olympic coach Chris Campbell said.
Neither team scored in the first inning, with Bainbridge starting pitcher Trey Thompson earning a strikeout and forcing two groundouts. But Olympic starting pitcher Blake Parker got three outs himself after walking Spartan shortstop McCrea Curfman.
The Spartans’ offense found life in the second inning when Will Rohrbacher hit a double to left field, scoring Braden French and Duncan Bos. Then A.J. Larsen hit a double to left field and Dom D’Amico hit a single to left field, scoring Rohrbacher and Tenzing Dikman, extending the Spartans’ lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the third.
“This is the first home game of the season,” said new Bainbridge coach Thomas Henshaw, who took over for Geoff Brown after he resigned last year. “The kids are trying to get into a rhythm, and I think they did a really good job. They got fourteen hits.”
The Spartan bats continued to stay hot, with Bos hitting a double to right-center field and Rohrbacher following with a hit to left, knocking in Bos. Rohrbacher hit a single to left in the top of the sixth, scoring Bos and making the score 10-2.
Trojan Jackson Brown flew out for the first at-bat for Olympic in the top of the seventh, but Cooper Burdick was able to hit a single to left and Jake Gordon was hit by a pitch, allowing the Trojans to have two baserunners for the first time all game. But the Spartans were able to get a double play to cap off the win.
Rohrbacher tallied three hits on the day, the most of any player from both squads.
“After the first, I made a huge adjustment, and I’m just excited to see [where] that takes me,” Rohrbacher said. “I mean, I put in a lot of work in the off-season, and I’m just happy to be out here.”
