The Spartans slipped past Nathan Hale and Ingraham late last week in girls gymnastics at a tough away meet in Seattle.

Bainbridge finished with 138.7, while Raiders of Nathan Hale had 131.6 and the Rams of Ingraham tallied 122.4.

Sarah Rice of Bainbridge was the all-around champ, with a score of 31.7.

Fellow Spartans Miller Shor came in third with 30.2, and Marielle Summers was fourth with 28.1.

Rice also finished first in the vault, beam and floor.

In the vault, Rice tallied a score of 8.4. Summers was a close second with 8.0. Shor earned fourth place with 7.6.

The competition was close on the bars.

Rice was first with 7.6, while Summers claimed third place with 7.4. Shor finished fifth with 7.2.

On the beam, Rice again took the top spot with a score of 8.4. Shor was second with 8.2.

In the floor exercise competition, Rice put the Spartans in first with 7.3.

Shor was right behind, with 7.2, and Summers placed fourth with 7.0.

“The team did well at Nathan Hale,” said Spartans Coach Cindy Guy. “It’s a hard place to compete.”

“Our bar scores — we’re very happy with,” she said. “And Anna Peek had a nice bar routine.”

Another highlight of the meet was Julia Cassella’s noteworthy floor routine, the coach said. And though Heidi Franz fell while on the beam, she finished the meet with improved performances in the other three events.

Guy said the meet gave them a good glimpse at Nathan Hale, and the team will make adjustments over the next two weeks.

The Spartans will return to competition on Friday, Jan. 11 with a home meet at Bainbridge High to again face Nathan Hale. West Seattle will also visit BHS for the meet.

“We’re going to work on adding some more skills and working on improving on our routines,” Guy said. “We’ve got quite a bit of time to do some work.”
