Bainbridge High School remains without a head coach for the varsity baseball team as the season opener looms ever closer.

Former Spartan Head Coach David Smart resigned late last year due to his job, which required him to relocate out of state.

“When David resigned we had posted the opening back in the fall,” explained BHS Athletic Director Kaycee Taylor. “And we had only a handful of people apply.”

Taylor said that in an effort to reach more potential applicants he officially reopened the position just last week.

“I’ve got no one selected,” Taylor said. “I haven’t even started interviews yet.”

Those interested in applying are encouraged to contact Taylor directly at ktaylor@bisd303.org.

Smart, an especially popular coach with both students and parents, left in the wake of a very successful season last year which saw the Spartans play through to the second round of state playoffs and finish the year with a conference record of 12-2 (18-3 overall).

Taylor said that temporary supervisors had been working with the team in the off-season.
