Bainbridge hoopsters edge West Seattle for Senior Day wins

The Bainbridge basketball teams converted three-pointers in the final minutes of regulation to win their final regular-season games at home.

Despite going three-for-13 from behind the arc Tuesday night, the Spartans made their three pointers when it counted.

With a minute to go in regulation, senior Ryan Burris sank a three to put the Spartans ahead of West Seattle 47-46.

But West Seattle answered with a lay-up with 29 seconds remaining in regulation to take the 48-47 lead.

On Bainbridge’s next possession, Will DiIorio made his only three of the night from the top of the arc, giving the Spartans the 50-48 lead.

With 16.9 seconds to go, West Seattle didn’t convert on its final possession, missing a three-pointer from the baseline and sealing the Spartans’ 50-48 Senior Day victory.

DiIorio had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Burris finished the night with 11 points and six rebounds.

The Spartans take on Chief Sealth in their final regular season contest on the road Thursday, and will host a Metro League playoff game at 7 p.m. Feb. 17.

Girls basketball

Tied with 5.2 seconds remaining in regulation, senior Kas Totura drained a three-pointer for the 45-42 victory in her final home game as a Spartan.

Totura, who didn’t made a two-point field goal all night, went three-for-eight from three point land.

All three of Bainbridge’s seniors had productive home court finales. Mallory Farrar shot four-of-six from the floor with nine points while Rebecca Sharar had seven rebounds – five of them offensive – two steals and three points.

Grace Kenyon scored all her points from the free throw line, going four-of-six.

The Spartans, who have already clinched the Metro’s Sound Division title, finish the regular season at Chief Sealth Thursday.
