After numerous battles on the diamond, all three Bainbridge softball teams were eliminated from the state tournaments this week.

The Majors team made it the deepest in the tournament, winning its first two games down in La Center by a combined score of 33-7, including a 24-3 drubbing of the District 6 champions from Battle Ground.

With all the momentum in Bainbridge’s favor, the team took on Bellevue, which had battled through some close games in the first two rounds. After allowing 12 runs in the first two games, Bellevue was able to stand up defensively to a Bainbridge team that averaged more than 13 runs in each of the first two games.

Bainbridge lost 8-0 Tuesday and had a tough game the next day against the Northeast/Northwest team from District 8. Bainbridge went down 7-4, finishing one win away from a shot at the championship.

The Bainbridge 10-11 team’s season came to a halt Monday night as it ran into a buzz saw in South Hill ace Brooke Van Doren in Kirkland.

“Van Doren appears to be the dominant pitcher in the tournament,” Bainbridge coach Kurt Lindsay said. “She was hitting the outside and the inside corners at will, and had a perfect game going against us through four innings. The fastest pitching we have seen.”

Bainbridge didn’t put a runner on until the fifth, but the defense held tough, only allowing two runs. Natalie Ackerly sent a chopper up the middle that scored Natalie Allen, but Riley Gregoire was tagged out at home at the end of the inning. Following the scare, South Hill put up five runs in the sixth to ice the game.

Bainbridge lost its first tournament game Saturday to Mill Creek 4-3, but rebounded against District 7’s Seattle squad with a 16-3 win.

The senior squad, a combination of players from Bainbridge and North Kitsap, lost its first two games and was eliminated from play in Kenmore.
