Bainbridge High won three straight games against Holy Names Academy over the weekend to qualify for the 3A State Volleyball Tournament at St. Martin’s College in Lacey.

The Spartans will meet Prairie High School at 9:45 a.m. Friday in its opening match of the double-elimination, 16-team tournament.

BHS qualified for the state tournament as the fifth-seeded District 2 team by defeating Holy Names at Sammamish High School on Saturday. Holy Names had previously won two out of three matches against the Spartans during the regular season.

The Spartans opened the Sea-King District 2 tournament with wins over Bishop Blanchet and Mount Si. Needing just one win to qualify for state, the Spartans lost to Eastside Catholic (3-0) and Mercer Island (3-2) before advancing with the win over Holy Names.

“If we play like we can,” said coach Julie Miller, “I think we can do pretty well in the tournament.”
