Bainbridge battled rough waters, unwelcoming weather and scores of skilled sailors at the Silverdale Fleet Regatta on Saturday, April 13.

The Spartans handled all three quite well, and brought home a number of top-five finishes.

The Bainbridge High sailing team competed against 17 high schools at the regatta, and there were two fleets, FJs and Vanguards with approximately 140 sailors in the races.

The day began with blustery winds with clouds and sun interspersed. Several capsizes occurred in the FJ fleet early, and the V15 fleet was postponed until the weather temporarily relaxed late in the day. The regatta finished with a hailstorm that made the docks slick and put an exclamation point on an exciting day of racing.

In the combined standings (Division A and B teams combined) for the FJ fleet, Bainbridge took second, third and fifth place overall out of 14 teams.

Spartan FJ sailors were Nate Greason and Carissa Block teamed with Blake Bentzen and Karl Anderson; Max Popken and Hannah Harrison teamed with Will Brown and Jackson McCoy; and Lea Fetterman and Stasi Burzycki teamed with Nels Challinor, Cole Garthwaite and Erik Applegate.

In the Vanguard fleet, Bainbridge sailors placed second and 11th overall out of 15 teams.

Geoff Brelsford and Johanna Rosenboom were third in Division A, and Connor Juckniess and Nick Dresel were third in Division B. Other V15 sailors were Olivia Moeller, Josh Rentz, Caelan Juckniess and Olivia Mitchell.
