BAINBRIDGE – The current crop of Bainbridge High School football players again made their traditional early morning trip to the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum last week, an annual excursion that has quickly become a staple of island football culture.

After their campout at the high school, the football team jogged through downtown Winslow to the ferry terminal where they distributed copies of the 2014 playing schedule to early morning commuters before trekking to the museum.

There, they were greeted by Educational Outreach Director Katy Curtis, and welcome for a special private tour.

Participating museum docents Reid Hansen, Tom Thatcher, Gary Loverich and Vern Nakata together represented four decades of BHS football, and the former Spartans led the current team through tales of island history featuring the physical effort, enthusiasm and diversity of the young people of generations past who helped create the lumber mills and early island settlements.

They also shared with the boys their own recollection of past BHS teams, players and coaches.
