Team moves on to the state tournament in Moses Lake.
The Bainbridge Island Babe Ruth 14-year-old team, managed by Dan Greenwood, rolled through the district playoffs held at Battle Point Park last weekend to advance to the state championship tournament.
The 14’s scored 39 runs over four games and used just three pitchers in Connor Loudon, Daniel Wyman and Derek Acunå to limit Central Kitsap and South Kitsap to 18 runs combined.
In the first game against South Kitsap, they went down 6-0 before rallying for 11 unanswered runs for the win.
Ben Kallas’ pinch hit two RBI single did the job to pull Bainbridge within three before scoring seven runs in the fifth to pull ahead.
Kevin Bowman did his part with a two run double while Bryce Fredey cleared the bases with a base hit, even scoring Elliott Marsing all the way from first on the single.
Against Central Kitsap, Bainbridge was down 3-2 before scoring three runs in the third inning to take the lead for good.
Acunå contributed with some solid middle relief as Bainbridge exploded for eight runs in the sixth, putting them one win away from a district championship.
In the second game against Central Kitsap, they took advantage of some Bainbridge errors to hold on for the 4-3 win, but Bainbridge came back to defeat them 8-1 in the third and deciding game.
As Loudon pitched four solid innings, Will Devereaux delivered a two run double to break a 1-1 tie in the third inning.
Daniel Wyman came in to shut them down for the final three innings for the win.
For the tournament, the hitting attack was led by JJ Wilford and David Greenwood who batted .462 and .455, respectively. Blake Harper caught 24 innings and scored a team leading six runs.
Cameron Kaminski made some spectacular plays at short and first while Elliott Marsing was the team spark plug, getting on base and stealing bases and Daniel Wyman gave up only one run over 10 and 2/3 innings pitched.
Max Herren scored a key run as a pinch runner while Evan Sanford was on base every time up and Henry McCombs had some defensive gems at third.
The state tournament begins July 11 in Moses Lake.
