TUKWILA – The Bainbridge Island Football Club had four teams, including the first ever for a girls team, return from the recent Founders Cup State Tournament at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila with championship titles: Bainbridge Island FC G04 Blue (girls under 14), Bainbridge Island FC B06 Blue (boys under 11), Bainbridge Island FC B04 Blue (boys under 13) and Bainbridge Island FC 98 (boys under 19).
The girls U-14 team is the first-ever BIFC girls state champion team.
The team’s remarkable spirit ensured that the girls would just not be denied in each of their final three games, team officials said. They won against higher ranked teams in their final three games, claiming the championship in the final with two goals from Annie Galbraith.
The team, coached by Ian McCallum, consists of: Galbraith, Camille Townsend, Claire Walters, Daphne Rojas, Ellen Owen, Emma Oliver, Erin Weiss, Eva Genkinger, Kylie Turner, Lauren Pujolar, Macy Kingrey, Mary Brooks, McKennah Thompson, Margan Daniel, Noelle Perry, Nora Adams, Sam Batson and Samantha Campbell.
The boys U-11 team won a close final, 2-0, against a squad from Northshore (the top-ranked team in the tournament), with goals from Luca Dubitzky and August Peterson, and a fine goalkeeping performance by Duncan Bos.
The team, coached by Phil Avison, consists of: Peterson, Cole Campbell, Bos, Finley Reynolds, Jameson Breger, Dubitsky, Mathew Maher, Milo McIntosh, Nathaniel Owen, River Hendrickson, Bobby Coulter, Sam Nylund and Sampson Murchie.
The boys U-13 squad comprehensively beat Crossfire, 3-0, and helped push the boys all the way to win the state tournament without conceding a single goal. Their tournament goal scoring record was 23-0, and amazing achievement, BIFC official said.
Two goals from Calvin Moe and one from Damoni McKenna-Greenwalt won the final game.
The team, also coached by Avison, consists of: Auden Moyer, Carlos Field-Bennett, Carson Powell, Cyrus Neghabat, McKenna-Greenawalt, Grant Werlin, Kyler Miller, Noah Thompson, Quinn Barjesteh, Zach Schramling, Caleb Saks, Moe, Ryan Alsberge and Cormac Dunstan.
Two goals from Ian Drury helped the Bainbridge boys under 19 team take home the champions trophy following constant pressure from the Timbers late in the game. The island team claimed a 2-1 win over the Vancouver squad.
Coached by Zach Conner, the team consists of: Derek Klein, Riley Dixon, Jordan Manor, Andy von Bergy, Ben Olliffe, David Nikunen, Kevin McCann, Kristian Magrini, Josh Jelcick, front row: Thomas Crowley, Ian Drury, Isaiah Mass, Andy Becker, Jake Prodinski, Ryan Fitzgerald and Will Dowell.
In addition to those four champion teams, BIFC was ably represented in the final four by the Bainbridge Island FC B03 (boys under 14) and Bainbridge Island FC B05 (boys under 12), who each went out at the semifinal stage, losing close games against South Tacoma United T.
The Bainbridge Island FC B00 White (boys under 17) went down 3-1 in the final with Bainbridge’s consolation goal coming from Cole Barjesteh.
Of the nine BIFC teams that moved forward into the Founders Cup postseason tournament, the club was able to boast seven that advanced to quarter finals, six of which moved on to the final four.
The club summary for the entire event, encapsulating all teams, included 37 wins, 10 losses and one tie with 134 goals for the BIFC teams with only 46 goals against.
