Wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour and tough pin positions made the Kitsap Golf and Country Club a tough location for the 2024 Olympic League Golf Championships May 6.
However, all the teams began a mass start at 8:30 a.m. and played 18 holes, rather than the usual nine.
3A Bainbridge competed alongside the league’s 2A schools and qualified its boys and girls teams for state since the teams placed in the top three in each division.
For the Spartan boys, Rainer Richardson, Andrew Jobes and Dane Byers tied for first with an 82, while Andrew Grinter and Anderson Wicklund tied for sixth with an 86.
On the girls side for BHS, Grace Charintranont won with an 88, Sara Kreigh tied for fifth with a 103, Clarice Telschow tied for seventh with a 111, Clara Kang tied for 15th with a 116 and Tabor Houghtelling tied for 23rd with a 124.
The 2A boys had the top seven individuals automatically qualify for state while the next eight will play in the district tournament at the Auburn Golf Course May 14 to see if they can qualify.
Kingston’s Viet Tran had the top score, finishing with an 83. Port Angeles’ Max Gagnon, Sky Gelder, Nate Anderson and North Mason’s Reid Schmidt earned the next four spots. Olympic’s CJ Faustino earned the sixth spot with a 91 while Trojan Noah Shaw and Buc Lane Curtis tied for the seventh spot with a 93.
