The Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club Girls team recently kicked off the start of the 2018-2019 competition season at the annual Holiday Express gymnastic meet in Kent.
The club’s newest gymnasts, Level 3, started the Dec. 7-9 weekend with a fine showing. Both Bella Fitzgerald (34.25) and Phare Deitrich (32.925) took fourth Place in the all-around competition in their age groups.
Bainbridge club gymnast Sophie Whitlock captured first place in vault with an impressive 9.0 in her first competition. Harlow Moffett and Jacqui Beresford also finished strong in the all-around competition in their age group with scores of 34.0 and 33.2, respectively.
The Level 4 and 5 gymnasts continued the strong team performance during their time in the spotlight.
Level 4 gymnast Kate Hansen finished with a respectable 31.375 in the all-around competition.
During the Level 5 competition, Sofia Fleishmann claimed sixth place in beam with an 8.525, while Kate Carver captured fourth place in vault with a strong 8.7 score.
The Level 7 and 8 gymnasts were the last groups to compete and continued the impressive performance by the Bainbridge athletes.
Susu Bereman, Level 7, not only finished third in vault, but also qualified for the end-of-season state competition with an all-around score of 33.875.
Avery Gray had an outstanding vault to finish in fourth place with an 8.9 score.
The Level 8 gymnasts closed out the meet with individual awards. Mariko Ronan scored a strong 9.225 to take third place in beam, while Siqi Talley finished an impressive second on bars with a 9.0 score.
The club’s coaching staff said that overall it was a great start of the season for the group of impressive gymnasts.
