FEDERAL WAY – The Bainbridge Island Swim Club raced to a fourth-place finish at the Northwest Region Short Course Swimming Championships.
The championships — held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way from March 10-13 — featured more than 50 teams and 1,300 swimmers from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
The Bainbridge club sent a team of 29 swimmers to compete in individual and relay events. Margaret Hayes won five event titles for Bainbridge, while Eleanor Beers won two event titles and Jude Wenker won one event title.

Emma Solseng: eighth place, 100-yard freestyle; sixth, 50-yard backstroke; fifth place, 100-yard backstroke

Margaret Hayes: first place, 50-yard freestyle; first place, 50-yard backstroke; first place, 100-yard backstroke; first place, 200-yard backstroke; first place, 50-yard butterfly

Kevin Houseman: fifth place, 100-yard backstroke; third place, 100-yard breaststroke
BOYS 15-18
James Bullock: fourth place, 200-yard freestyle; second place, 500-yard freestyle
The Bainbridge Island Swim Club also sent a team of 15 swimmers to the Western Region Speedo Sectionals, held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way from March 17-20.
The championships hosted about 850 men and women swimmers from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
Eleanor Beers qualified for two finals, taking sixth place in the 100-yard butterfly and 19th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Garrett Waite finished in 14th place in the 200-yard backstroke; 27th place in the 200-yard individual medley; and 26th place in the 400-yard individual medley.
Kevin Houseman claimed 17th place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
