Buc boys, Spartan girls run to league titles

Kingston’s boys cross country team continues to impress after capturing the Olympic League title Oct. 20.

The Buccaneers easily captured the boys title, defeating second-place Port Angeles by 31 points.

The Bucs had two top-five finishes in the meet. Junior Lucas Lenz finished second out of 56 runners with a time of 16 minutes, 5.04 seconds while senior Kaeden Peterson finished fifth in 16:23.12. After capturing the title, the Buccaneers boys ended with a perfect regular season, tying their largest margin of victory.

Kingston will be sending seven boys to the Westside Classic Districts Oct. 29 in University Place. In addition, Olympic will be the only other 2A school sending runners to the Westside Classic District Championships, sending eight runners. Although Central Kitsap and South Kitsap’s league championships are scheduled for Oct. 22, they have several runners qualified for the district meet too. Central Kitsap will send nine boys for the 3A division while South Kitsap sends nine for the 4A division.

On the girls side, Bainbridge has proved to be one of the top teams in Western Washington. The Spartans dominated at the Olympic League Championships, finishing with a score of 32 points, 42 points lower than second-place North Kitsap.

Sophomore Mairin O’Brien led the Spartans, finishing first out of 57 runners. In addition, Bainbridge placed four more runners in the top 10 with times of 20:33 or better.

Bainbridge’s girls squad heads to Kelso High to compete in Greater St. Helens 3A Districts. The Spartans send seven girls to compete in the district championships. According to Athletic.Net, the Spartans are projected to dominate the GSHL 3A meet.

Kingston sends nine runners and Olympic sends seven to the girls 2A division at Westside Classic District Championships. Similar to the boys side, the Cougars and Wolves both send nine runners to their respective divisions. According to Athletic.net, Klahowya, North Kitsap and Bremerton do not have any entries on either side.
