The Commotion claimed the Majors Championship with a 10-5 extra innings win over the Diamonds Wednesday.

In game one of the championship Monday, the Diamonds came out on top, winning 10-5 after taking an early 7-1 lead.

Baseball

After losing to the Cubs in the double elimination format, the Red Sox beat the Athletics 12-0, the Pirates 15-3 and the Cardinals 24-10 to earn a championship berth.

The Red Sox took an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning. The Cubs rallied to take the lead 6-5 behind a grand slam by Cole Smith.

With an 8-6 lead and and the bases loaded, Truman Miller hit a bases-clearing double that scored Eric Nibarger, Brian Hutchinson and Jack Peirano – and the Red Sox never looked back.

Pitcher Matias Francis, Miller and Sam Alpaugh had strong performances in the 20-9 win.

In Monday’s rematch, the Red Sox scored early. Jack Peirano led off with a single and eventually scored. Lucas Weyand also reached base and scored, and the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead.

The Cubs came right back and took a 3-2 lead after a three-run home run by Cole Smith that dented the hood of a Red Sox coach’s van. However, the Cubs had trouble finding the strike zone and walks put Red Sox runners on board.

Strong defense from Brendan Bennett, Miller, Alpaugh and a home run-saving catch by Wyatt Longley denied the comeback.

Solid pitching by Miller and Devon Reynolds held off the Cubs and the Red Sox won 10-4 to take home the trophy.
