SILVERDALE – Bainbridge banged out an early 7-1 lead over Central Kitsap late last week in girls varsity fastpitch softball, but a three-run rally by the Cougars in the seventh saddled the Spartans with their second loss of the season as CK went on to win, 11-10.
The Cougars got on the board first and went ahead, 1-0, in the first inning at Linder Field.
In the second inning, however, the Bainbridge bats came alive and the Spartans brought seven players across home plate.
CK chipped away at Bainbridge’s 7-1 advantage in the fourth inning, and plated four runs to regain the lead to 8-7.
The back-and-fourth affair continued in the sixth, as the Spartans got back on top with two runs and put the score at 9-8.
Riley Gregoire led the Spartans’ offense. She went 3-for-4 and had three RBIs.
Teammate Natalie Allen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and fellow Spartan Kate Kinney had a home run and two RBIs.
Deahna King took the mound for Bainbridge until the fourth.
Hope Lawrence was the winning pitcher for CK.
The Cougars were led by Marissa Adams, who went 3-for-5 and had a double and two RBIs, and Cassidy Garchow and Lawrence, who contributed two RBIs first.
The loss put Bainbridge at 0-2.
