The Cubs defeated the Red Sox 8-4 to win the Majors Championship in a thrilling back-and-forth battle.

After four lead changes in Saturday’s game, the Cubs pulled ahead and stayed there to take the Bainbridge Island Majors Little League championship. The Cubs finally managed to grab the lead with a two-run home run late in the game by Jonah Giblin.

Giblin, and Jonathan Kussie for the Red Sox, battled for four innings on the mound before turning it over to their teammates.

The Red Sox battled hard but Cubs relief pitcher JR Ritchie held them hitless over the final two innings to get the save. Jonah Giblin and Owen McWilliam combined for four hits and four RBIs and an injured Kai Francis chipped in with two gutsy base hits while Owen Rector stayed red hot at the plate to help lead the Cubs.

The Red Sox were an impressive 16-0 in the regular season.

This was the second year in a row that manager Bill Kobs advanced to the championship game; his Red Sox team won the 2013 championship and he almost pulled off the repeat, until he met up with manager Ian Ritchie’s 2014 Champion Cubs.
