Ferries temporarily named after M’s

To celebrate the success of the Seattle Mariners pro baseball team, Washington State Ferries is temporarily renaming its vessels after team members.

The team ended a 21-season drought of making the playoffs, and won its first-round matchup, upsetting the Toronto Blue Jays. They lost their first game in the second-round to Houston. They play again Oct. 13.

Gov. Jay Inslee directed the name change, which starts Oct. 13. The names will remain in place as long as the Mariners remain in the 2022 postseason play.

“We are so proud of our Mariners for finally breaking our playoff drought and giving our fans the excitement of postseason baseball!” Inslee said. “This honorary name change is a way to show our appreciation and for fans to feel even closer to the team…Go Mariners!”

On Bainbridge, riders will travel on the M/V “Mariners Good Vibes Only” (Tacoma) and M/V “Cal ‘Big Dumper’ Raleigh” (Wenatchee).

In Bremerton, they will ride the M/V Julioooooooooo (Walla Walla).

And in Kingston, they will ride the M/V “Ty ‘Viva Le’ France” (Puyallup) and the M/V “Luis ‘La Piedra’ Castillo” (Spokane).
