After graduating its most productive player from the 2009 season, Bainbridge will look to fill a void in its Wing-T offense as the team takes on North Kitsap on the road Friday.
As a senior, Alex Johnson tallied 1,084 of the Spartans’ 2,259 rushing yards. The fullback scored 12 touchdowns in 2009, earning first team all-Metro honors.
Senior Corey Touchette, who rushed for 144 yards last season, is the Spartans’ top fullback. Nick Miller will start at halfback along with Alex Coplan, while Alex Crane, who rushed for four touchdowns in 2009, will be the No. 1 wingback.
Carson Zajonc, listed at six feet, two inches and 180 pounds, took over as quarterback midway through the 2009 season and will start Friday. Zajonc finished his junior campaign 31-of-53 with 487 passing yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions.
The Spartans graduated quarterback Jordan Wagner, who started the first half of the season.
Chris Bell, who attempted just three passes last season, will back up Zajonc and also play defensive back.
All-Metro senior Alec Grimm and all-Metro honorable mention tackle Logan Dieterich will anchor the offensive line. Seniors Sam Orrey and Will Rynearson return at guard and Brandon Connor is back at tackle.
The Spartans also have a veteran kicker in Will Devereaux, who earned all-Metro Honorable Mention honors as a junior.
Coach Andy Grimm, now in his 13th season, lists seniors Miller, Karl Hunt and Henry Indvik as key newcomers.
In their last meeting, Bainbridge topped the Vikings 35-19. Senior Alex Nettleton returns as North Kitsap’s starting quarterback.
