Girls lacrossers score blowout win versus Mercer Island; Porter heads to state in tennis

The Bainbridge girls lacrosse team put the pedal to the floor and didn’t let up once as they defeated Mercer Island 21-6 in a WSGLA Varsity A state semifinal playoff game Thursday night to move onto the state finals Saturday.

Natalie Evans had six goals while Lucy Schlesser added five and Mariah Walk scored four.

Bainbridge led 9-2 at halftime, then went on a 7-0 run to effectively end the game.

It’s the 12th time the Spartans have scored in double-digits and the sixth time they’ve scored 20 goals or more.

The Spartans (13-1) now move on to face Lakeside at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium for the Varsity A championship.

Bainbridge last won the title in 2005.

The boys’ lacrosse team puts its two-year in-state undefeated streak on the line when they play Issaquah at 1 p.m. for the Division I title.

In other news, Bainbridge tennis player Grace Porter qualified for state at the 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament.

She lost to eventual district champ Natalie Allen of Holy Names 2-6, 7-5, 4-6 but defeated Bellevue’s Sarah Ebrahami 6-3, 6-2 in a winner to state game and defeated Holy Names’ Rachel Storz 6-1, 3-2 when Storz retired due to heat exhaustion.

The Bainbridge fastpitch team defeated Skyline 3-0 Thursday at Marymoor Park in Redmond to advance to a winner to state game against undefeated Issaquah Friday at noon.

Lindsay Willmann gave up just one hit and struck out 10 while Clara Dunn had a two RBI double.

The Bainbridge track and field team also heads into the final day of the 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament at the Southwest Complex in West Seattle Friday.

The running events start at 4 p.m. while the field events start at 4:30 p.m.
