Island angler claims casting title

Brian Hinkle won the distance casting event at the recent Bainbridge Island Fly Fishers Sixth Annual Fly Casting Contest at Seabold Hall.

BAINBRIDGE –  Brian Hinkle won the distance casting event at the recent Bainbridge Island Fly Fishers Sixth Annual Fly Casting Contest at Seabold Hall.

Hinkle managed a 78-foot cast.

Coming in a close second was Satya Advani, one of the club’s youngest members, with a 74-foot cast, said club spokesman Eric Matthews.

“The accuracy contest featured a paper plate target placed between 40 and 50 feet from the flycaster, and was won by Bruce Bachen who prevailed by a single point over our second-place finisher, distance casting winner Brian Hinkle,” Matthews said.

These specific contest categories are designed to replicate the two most important technical skills needed to successfully hook trout or salmon in both fresh or saltwater, he added.

Bainbridge Island Fly Fishers is dedicated to conservation education and sustainable catch-and-release fishing for both youth and adults in the North Kitsap area.
