BAINBRIDGE – The Lakeside Lions snapped the Spartans’ two-game win streak in girls varsity volleyball by claiming a 3-1 win in four sets Tuesday in Paski Gymnasium.
Lakeside prevailed 25-11 in the first set, but it looked like the Spartans would have the Lions by the tail after BHS broke a 6-all tie to take a 7-6 lead in the second set.
Lakeside rallied to move back in front, however, but the Spartans closed the gap repeatedly until the Lions ultimately escaped with a 25-23 win.
In the third set, the Spartans led early, though Lakeside surged back with back-to-back blocks to retake the lead.
Strong play by the Spartans put them back in front, where they stayed until they forged a 25-22 victory.
The fourth set was another thriller, with the set knotted at 14-14 until the scrappy Lions clawed out the win.
