Williams takes home a medal from national competition.

Brooke Williams, a seventh- grader at Woodward Middle School, brought home a medal from the USA Gymnastics 2008 Level 9 Western Championships last weekend at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, M.

Williams, a member of Cascade Elite Gymnastics in Mountlake Terrace, finished tied for tenth on the bars in the Junior B Division with a score of 9.45.

She took 17th overall in the bars with a score of 9.225.

Williams also tied for 24th on the vault with a score of 8.975 and finished 40th on the beam with a score of 8.4.

Her all-around score of 36.5 was good enough to place her in a tie for 24th place out of 49 competitors.

Williams, along with her Region 2 Junior B teammates in Audrey Ryals from Gym East, Diana Mejia, from Naydenov Gymnastics, Amber Takara from Auburn Gymnastics Center, Makayla Betz from Leading Edge South and Hope Glembo of Multanomah Athletic Club placed fourth overall in the team competition.

It was also the last competition for Williams’ coaches Stephanie Renggli, who does bars and vault and Jen-ai Decano, her floor and beam coach.

The two are retiring for health and personal reasons.
