Newport made a great escape from the Rock late last week in girls varsity water polo.

The Knights knocked out Bainbridge 9-8 in overtime in a nailbiter at the Bainbridge Aquatic Center.

Two Spartan standouts split the offensive chores for the Spartans. Grace Carson fired in four goals, while teammate Kristina DuPont added four more of her own.

The game was the back end of a two-day homestand for the Spartans on April 18-19. Bainbridge won the matchup against Auburn Riverside the day before.
