NK girls place 6th, leading locals at state

BI girl places 14th for top local individual performance

North Kitsap’s girls placed sixth and the boys 15th, while the Kingston boys placed ninth in the state 2A Cross Country meet in Pasco Saturday.

In 3A, Bainbridge placed 14th in the girls with 298 points. For the boys, Bainbridge was 17th with 428 points.

For the girls, Sehome won with 64 points, while North Kitsap had 184. Junior Jessica Frydenlund of Anacortes won in 17 minutes, 58.78 seconds.

Senior Genesi Funston led the Vikings, placing 14th in 20:08.1. Three sophomores and a freshman finished out the scoring. Salix Wartes-Kahl was right on the heels of Funston, placing 15th in 20:09.9. Ingrid Burchill (50th, 21:50) Kendall Becker (52nd, 21:53.3) and Macy Berndtson (53rd, 21:54.1). Sophomores Eally Ondusko and Maggie Niven also competed.

For the boys, Squalicum won the team title with 77. Kingston had 235 and the Vikings 317. Senior Cooper Quigley of Selah won the race in 15:38.3.

Kingston was led by senior Connor Nichols, who finished 20th with a time of 17:19.5. Junior Kaeden Peterson was 28th in 17:20.6; sophomore Lucas Lenz 47th in 17:46.9; sophomore Emmanuel Moes 64th in 18:14.3; and junior Benjamin Eudeline 69th in 18:18.5. Senior Sam Decker and freshman Luke Whalen also competed.

For North Kitsap, senior Dereck Cordova was the top finisher, placing 37th in 12:32.8. Sophomores Quinny Stuart (55th, 18:02.9) and Matthew Fee (68th, 18:17.8) followed. Senior Samuel Erickson finished 76th in 18:24.8 and rounding out the scoring was junior Camden Leroy, who placed 81st in 18:30.7. Also competing for the Vikings were junior Alec Ibarra and senior Carson Monette.

In 3A, Mead won with 114. Macy Marquardt of Kennwick won in 17:31.6.

Senior Eden Michael was the Spartans top finisher in 19:18.8, finishing 14th. Fellow senior Lucy King was 51st in 20:18.8; sophomore Lily Curtis 65th in 20:53.1; freshman Gabrielle Farley 78th in 21:04.4; and sophomore Elise Gonzales 90th in 21:32.4. Sophomores Liliana Pohl and Hailey McCulloch also competed at state.

For the boys, Bishop Blanchett won with 88. Junior William Schneider on the top team won the race in 15:17.1.

Senior Alexander Miller led the Spartans finishing 61st in 17:11.5. Junior Will Browning was 98th in 17:32; sophomore Brodie Strom 158th in 18:14; junior Abe Cole 160th in 18:15.4; and senior Peter Mace Korytko 176th in 18:34.3. Sophomore Laird Farrel and freshman Jack Thompson also competed.
