North Kitsap defeated the Bainbridge Spartans 3-1 in volleyball Sept. 13, despite having inconsistent runs throughout the match.
Bainbridge took an early 9-6 lead in the first set because of multiple service errors and Bainbridge aces.
However, NK’s offense began to click behind the dangerous trio of Lillian Pruden, Iliana Brockett and Maddie Pryde. The three Vikings were able to set and kill from any spot on the court when the offense flowed smoothly.
Yet, the offense did not run smoothly at the halfway point of the first set, allowing Bainbridge to take a 10-9 lead. After trading blows, North Kitsap was back on track, going on a 14-6 run to win the first set 25-16.
Despite capturing early momentum, North Kitsap struggled in the second set. Bainbridge middle blockers Isabel White and Holly McFadden dominated at the net, blocking nearly any shot coming over. In addition, the offense began to flow through them, drawing double teams throughout the night.
Bainbridge took its largest lead of the night, 14-7 when NK created multiple errors in a row. Some errors included touching the net, hitting the ball into the net, service errors and more. Bainbridge capitalized on the Vikings’ mistakes and won the second set 25-20.
The Vikings flipped their game plan around and took a 9-1 lead in the third set. After a few errors, the Vikings found themselves within reaching distance of winning the third set. Sophia Baugh stepped up and helped the Vikings capture the third 25-13.
In the final set, Bainbridge came with guns blazing. Ella Piland began to fire shots at North Kitsap, but the Vikings’ defense held firm. The Vikings took the fourth set 25-16 after both sides again committed multiple errors.
