Over 1,000 participate in BI’s All-Comers Track Meets this summer

A record 265 participants and hundreds of fans attended the sixth and final 2024 Kiwanis All-Comers Track Meet Aug. 19.

Those who accumulated the most points over the course of the season were awarded gold medals and framed certificates. The girls winners were: Cora Lum (8) and Vivian Gray (11). The boys winner was Grant Vandergriff (6). The top miler was Don Hollum. The top three finishers in the evening’s races were awarded ribbons, as always. For more results go to www.bikiwanis.org.

Overall, more than 1,000 runners of all ages participated this summer. Participants are grouped by gender and age, ranging from 3 and younger through 12 and older, high schoolers and adults. Each meet started with the Joggers Mile for all ages, with participants predicting their own times. That event is followed by the 40-, 75-, 125- and 400-meter runs, 40-meter hurdles and the 4 by 100-meter relay.

The races are managed by former cross-country coach Paul Benton and coordinated by Kiwanian Chris Miller. Timing races and reporting results were handled by the Bainbridge High School cross-country team and the Kiwanis-sponsored Key Club. The event is free for participants thanks to many BI businesses that are sponsors, who also provided fudge and ice cream certificates to participants.
