When Dylan Tucker-Ganges departed the Bainbridge boys’ soccer team two games into the season, the thought was there that the team wouldn’t accomplish much.
Instead, they came together and made their way through the regular season with ease, earning shutout wins over teams like O’Dea, Central Kitsap and Seattle Prep twice thanks to a stellar defense and a group of offensive players that could score at any time.
Though the Spartans lost the last game of the regular season, they still finished first in the Metro League Mountain Division, their first Metro division title in school history.

It was a double victory for Bainbridge at this year’s Viking Cup youth soccer tournament in Poulsbo. Both Bainbridge Island Youth Soccer Club teams claimed championships – the 24th annual – in the girls’ under-12 age bracket, and all within an hour-and-a-half of one another.
The Bainbridge High School Sailing Team wound up its competitive season with two regattas held over Memorial Day weekend.
Half of the team, comprised of the event qualifiers, traveled to Lake Minnetonka Yacht Club in Minnesota for the Toby Baker Team Racing National Championship to determine the winner of the coveted Baker Trophy for high school team racing.
The other half of the sailing team raced in the Port Townsend Memorial Day Regatta, a fleet race regatta run by Port Townsend High School off Point Hudson.
Once again, Kyra Wortley held her ground in the ensuing shoot-out while Brooke Brigham nailed the fourth and final penalty kick to give the Bainbridge White Ice the 2008 Viking Cup Championship victory.
