BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – A new name reigns supreme in the world of island Little League as the Racers, coached by Clint Pells and Deidre Raben, claimed a decisive 7-4 victory over the Commotion Wednesday, June 11 on Kurt Lindsay Field at Strawberry Hill Park.
The contest was an exciting affair which had six lead changes.
Commotion started the scoring off in the top of the first inning when Ali Spence scored from third on an RBI ground-out by Charlotte Bond. Laffayette Chabot held the Racers scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when singles from Grace Duffy, Ruby Raymundo and Gracie Raben brought a run in and put the Racers on the board.
In the top of the third, the Commotion fought back and scored a run when Katherine Lovelace’s line drive to right field drove in Chabot.
In the bottom half of the third, Abbey Mikami’s two-run double, and Elizabeth Dauber’s RBI single, put the Racers up 4-2.
The Commotion tied things back up in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by Kari Perry.
The score remained deadlocked until the bottom of the fifth when Olivia Wikstrom followed singles by Natalie Gillatt and Abby Sullivan to put the Racers up for good with a two-run double.
Later in the inning, Mikami finish the scoring with an RBI single to bring home Wikstrom.
The Racers’ Wikstrom had an outstanding pitching performance and went four innings, striking out five and giving up no earned runs. Grace Duffy pitched the middle two innings, striking out two and giving up three runs.
For the Commotion, Chabot pitched three innings had one strike out, and surrendered four earned runs. Georgia Wood pitched two innings had one strike out and gave up three earned runs.
