RENTON – Mariko Ronan of the Bainbridge Spartans gymnastics team was named an “Athlete of the Week” by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for Week 15 (Dec. 3-9).
Ronan earned the honor after she pushed her squad to a victory in the meet against Garfield, Roosevelt and Ingraham. She tied for second place on vault (8.30), third on bars (7.70), first on beam (8.45) first on floor (9.25), and won the all-around event with a total score of 33.65.
Each week throughout the school year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off of nominations).
All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA “Athlete of the Week” award. Nominations are open to athletic administrators, coaches, fans and members of the media.
