Spartan boys take on Franklin

When the Spartans face Franklin on the road at 7 p.m. tonight – the teams’ only match-up of the season – they’ll have more than just their tough schedules in common. Neither team is ranked this week, and both battled through two overtimes in their last Metro League contests.

The Spartans (7-3 in the Metro, 10-4 overall) held on for a 58-55 win over Lakeside Jan. 19, while the Quakers (7-2 in the Metro, 7-7 overall) were edged by second-ranked Rainier Beach 71-70 Friday.

Almost a year ago to the date, the Spartans upset the undefeated and top-ranked Franklin Quakers 62-60 at BHS.

The Quakers are undefeated against Metro opponents at home this season, and have won four of their last five league contests.

Franklin’s only two loses have been to Lakeside in December and Rainier Beach.

Spartans guard Will DiIorio is averaging a team-high 18 points per game.

Ryan Burris – the Spartans’ second leading scorer – and Jimmy Bagget – the team’s starting point guard – sat out the last two games due to a coach’s decision.
