The Bainbridge High School varsity girls golf team finished in second place at the recent two-day Metro Championship Tournament, finishing behind only Seattle Prep, concluding a season that began in question but then almost immediately evolved into one of the most exciting in recent years.
“Congratulations to Seattle Prep, they played better than us today,” said Spartan Head Coach Ian Havill. “But we played outstanding.
“You can’t hang your heads today.”
“With our scores … I thought we would win,” he added. “Tough conditions for everyone out there. Pretty windy [but] didn’t get the rain we wanted.”
The slim squad’s sole senior, co-captain Kendall Havill, finished in third place overall with a 32.8 final average.
She shot 75 on Day Two, a personal best, and was selected for First Team All-Metro.
Junior co-captain Anna Kozlosky was the second-best Bainbridge duffer, finishing in ninth place with a 26.65 total average. She shot a solid 86 on Day Two and was selected for Second Team All-Metro.
Makena Miller shot 86, a personal best, and finished 17th.
Hayden Jobes shot 94 on the second day, 10 shots better than Day One, the coach said, and finished with a 21.28 total average.
Charley Halbert finished 35th and Maya Wilder, 40th.
The first-place spot went to Roosevelt’s Hannah Elaimy, who finished with a 35.10 total average.
West Seattle’s Lauryn Nguyen finished second.
